My friends Karsten and Qiao celebrated their official marriage on New Year's Day 2008. This is the story of what happened as 25 Europeans descended on to the town of Huang Jiang in Southern China to help them celebrate. At the centre of the proceedings are the symbols of marriage made from paper and folded using simple origami techniques in to the finished product. Fortunately i was able to find photos of these symbols and other wedding photos and get them in to a story format for you!

My attention has been altered to the wonderful boundary breaking application of simple origami in space! Yes indeed, those clever guys at Japan Origami Plane Association have come up with a rather special bit of folding! Find out more here.

Hey folks, just a quick note to thank Jeff over at yoga for men - sorry ladies! For mentioning this blog on his site. You see he and i believe that there is a strong overlap between the two disciplines. It is something that will explore over the spring. Thanks for reading and watch this space.

I'm not much in to the hype of Valentines Day. I demonstrate love on much more than an annual basis. Why pay for a tired set price menu when you can do a much better job of the occasion at home? Simple origami can feature in the event too.

In fact for me the simple origami thought has sparked a better than average chance of making an effect on 14th February. You see i really enjoy following diagrams and getting my edges folded neatly. Aside from being a reasonable cook - opinion modification! Folding some decorations would be a nice project. Of course the boundaries have to be set in advance. I can't cover every inch of the place in paper after all who needs a Valentines Day fire brigade call out? It would be an embarrassing thing to admit at interview:
Officer: "Well Chris, any ideas on how the blaze started?"

Chris:
" Yes, actually i have"

Officer:
"You'd better let us know for the report"

Chris:
"OK, this is it................ I decided to dress the flat up with simple origami decorations to suprise my girl friend. You see after three years of no Valentines celebration at all i thought it would a nice suprise for Monica to come home to. Lots of pretty lanterns and simple origami butterflies hanging from the ceiling. That kind of thing"

Officer:
"So you were using inflammable substances for decoration?"

Chris:
"Paper burns, if that's what you mean"

Officer:
"This is going in the report, be careful with your tone. So you wanted to impress your girl friend with this display of simple origami on Valentines Day?"

Chris:
" Yup"

Officer:
"oh dear! Maybe next time you should consider eating out!"

Interview terminates, Officer grinning ear to ear, Chris is absolute crimson, ears burning.

So i have reached the conclusion that in order to raise the necessary tempo of the evening i should rationalize my preparations and make sure that the flammable substances described above should not be near the candles. So you might say that it's going to be a fire aware simple origami Valentines Day celebration. With candles but not too many. This is a shame as Monica really likes candles.

But i do have one piece of table side origami, after the meal kind of trick which i think i ought to share with you. Check out the video and learn this sequence to impress your date!

I've been away since before Christmas. I was invited to attend a Chinese wedding in the Southern province of Guangzhou. I had an amazing time and have lots of intriguing stories to tell. The story of Kung Fu Meets Simply Origami is my first. My friend Will and I were talking on New Year's Day whilst waiting for the evening banquet to celebrate the union of our friends Qiao and Karsten.

I am going to introduce a games section to the site. Games will relate to logic problems and finding solutions. If anyone has any ideas about this then do leave a comment and i will take action!

First Post! 12/10/2007

The idea of my site is to explore the varied ways simple origami can be used in day to day living. So far my exploration has unearthed the paper folding of origami and most recently Orikaso. I was intrigued to find out about that one. Folding plates, mugs and bowls. It's like tuperware gone mad! I haven't mentioned the chess and backgammon sets which are included yet.

So over the course of the next few days i can get to grips more with weebly. I look forward to an active RSS feed!
